Please can anyone help me.
I am researching my family tree and would like to find information about my grandfather Lewis Russell King.
My grandfather lived with a family called Collier, Harry I beleive to be his name would anyone know of this family.Lewis was also the propritor of the Roseneath Cycle Depot as I have a poster with his name on which I think maybe about 70-80 years old.Would anyone have any photos of the shop.
Many thanks

Hi,
I believe that it was in Main Street Uplyme next to a butcher's shop.In a photo that is in The Book of Uplyme it say's about a butcher's shop on the corner of Gore Lane with a tea room formerly a cycle shop.
Hope this may help.

There was an Ian Collier who used to own Amhurst Lodge just outside of the village. Could that have been the family I wonder ? Not sure where Ian is now, but his daughter, Jane (now Mrs.Thomas) works at the primary school in Uplyme.
I will ask about the cycle shop in the pub on Sunday.

Hi Jeannette
Sorry, I haven't had the opportunity to speak with anyone about the Cycle Depot yet.
Yes please, by all means send your pictures to webmaster@uplyme.com and they will be published with the others.
Cheers,

Hi Jeanette,
Not very good news I'm afraid - I asked a good friend of mine Terry Matthews who has lived in the village man and boy. He distinctly remembers using the butchers shop on the corner - run by Mr E Wheadon (as can be seen of the front cover of 'The Book of Uplyme' however, he has no recollection of a cycle depot in the village let alone next to the butchers.
I will ask others, but I wonder if it predates the current generations ? Do you have any dates at all ?
Sorry we couldn't be more helpful this time.
Geoff.
