|Uplyme Youth go top of the league
Exmouth Town 2 Uplyme Youth 2
Last Sunday, with a 2 - 2 away draw at Exmouth Town, Uplyme Youth U13 climbed to the top of the East Devon League and extended their unbeaten run of league games to 8.
The game was kicked-off just after the rain stopped on a cold and windy day at the hilltop “Exmouth Archery” ground. Exmouth Town, with the wind and slope in their favour spent the first 5 minutes on the attack and were rewarded with an own goal by Uplyme. In the following 5 minutes the tide changed as Uplyme got into gear and tested the Exmouth keeper several times. Eventually the pressure resulted in a goal slotted in by Kyle Knight from a precise cross from Anthony Simes. A minute later Simes dribbled past 3 defenders beat the Exmouth keeper and took the score to 1 - 2. With the play at the Exmouth end for the next quarter of an hour Uplyme had many chances but produced no score. In the last five minutes Exmouth came back and from a rapid run by one of their strikers equalized the score. The half time whistle saw the score sheet at 2 – 2.
Although the strong wind had abated, Uplyme had the advantage of the slope and for most of the second half kept the ball in the Exmouth territory. However all of Uplyme’s attempts on goal were thwarted by the solid defence and there was no further score leaving the result a 2 – 2 draw.
The referee judged Uplyme’s Man of the Match to be Sam Jones. Uplyme Youth’s next match is away to Dartmouth on Sunday 2nd December in Round 3 of the Devon (Tesco) Cup.
