Uplyme Youth 9 - Exmouth Town 3
Uplyme Youths’ end of season cruise !
The game was kicked off on a swelteringly hot Sunday afternoon. The first few minutes were fairly even but as time wore on Uplyme’s downhill advantage began to tell and in the fifth minute Josh Armytage ran and dribbled his way down the right wing and slotted in Uplyme’s first goal. Two minutes later Kyle Knight took a fine cross from Armytage and put away Uplyme’s second. Exmouth endured attack for several minutes more with their keeper making some good saves particularly one from Sam Jones. After this onslaught Exmouth took the ball up their right wing but finally put their shot wide. Other Exmouth attacks were ably defended by Uplyme’s right wing defence of Bret James and Callum Taylor. However Uplyme’s attacks came thick and fast - many beginning from big kicks from Anthony Simes’ place kicks and from George Heath’s frequent volleys from defensive positions. Uplyme’s accurate passing also played its part – in particular Tom Chapple’s cross to Knight in the fifteenth minute allowed him his second goal. Exmouth also had some more chances on goal but all went wide or were picked up by goalie Henry Perry, until in the thirtieth minute, one went through to the net for their first goal. But a minute from the restart Uplyme’s Armytage put in his second goal and later picked up a long ball from Simes and got his hat trick. Exmouth did not give up though and seconds from the half time whistle put in their second goal from a well-executed corner and goalmouth volley. The half-time score was 5 – 2 to Uplyme.
Uplyme kept up the pressure from the kick-off of the second half but attempts by Simes and Jones went wide. Exmouth’s attack troubled the Uplyme keeper in the fourth minute however five minutes later at the Exmouth end Armytage got in his fourth goal – giving him his thirtieth goal of the season. Seven more minutes on Arymtage helped Knight get his hat trick and in the twenty-third minute he dashed up the field and crossed to Jack Heath who put the ball in the back of the net. There was some end–end-football for six minutes until Uplyme’s busy mister Jones got on the end of an Exmouth goal kick and put the ball though to Armytage who banged in his fifth goal. Even after the numerous Uplyme goals Exmouth still had something left and, in extra time from free kick, scored their third goal.
Uplyme’s Man of the Match was to judged to be Josh Armytage who ended the season with a very creditable thirty-one goals to his name.
This was Uplyme’s final match of the season.
