Uplyme Youth 5 - Watts Blake Bearne Youth 7
Twelve Goal Thriller !
On another warm and sunny Sunday afternoon at Uplyme’s Venlake pitch Watts Blake Bearne (WBB) kicked off downhill but within the first minute found themselves down by a goal thanks to Uplyme’s striker Kyle Knight. Uplyme continued on the attack for another minute or so with midfielders Matt Pile and Sam Jones contributing to the attack. However WBB turned things around and in the fourth minute the ball was headed into the Uplyme goal. WBB continued their attack for the next eight minutes and scored another headed goal. During the following twenty minutes there was excitement at both ends with Uplyme’s Josh Armytage being denied a goal thanks to a WBB defenders goal line clearance. At the Uplyme end many WBB opportunities were limited by their off-side positioning stopping play and some well executed slide tackles by right back Jack Fox. On the half hour Armytage lobbed the ball over the WBB keeper to equal the score at two all. Just before half time WBB nearly took the lead again but were prevented by the boot of Pile on the Uplyme goal-line.
WBB attacked from the whistle in the second half and were rewarded by their third goal in the fourth minute despite keeper Brett James’ plucky attacking actions. James and his defenders were called on to save several more shots from the goal-line until Uplyme took up the attack in the fourth thirty ninth minute and five minutes later Armytage again put the ball past the WBB keeper. Although WBB came back strongly their shots went wide or high and it was Armytage who again scored for Uplyme – a sound header on the end of a cross from a corner kick. The next five minutes of play went WBB’s way but score was prevented by keeper James punching out a well struck corner kickand defenders Symes and George Heath keeping the attack at bay. Uplyme scored their fifth goal in the fifty-third minute when Knight crossed to Pile who controlled the ball well and put in a clean shot. However in the last fifteen minutes WBB took control and scored four times in six minutes despite the Uplyme midfield coming back to assist the defense and James’ valiant keeping. The final score was 5 – 7 in favour of Watts Blake Bearne.
Uplyme’s Man of the Match was judged be Jack Fox. Uplyme’s next match is 2.00pm Sunday 19th October at home to Ottery St Mary.
