Pubs will soon be able to screen matches from foreign broadcasters without fear of hounding by Sky's henchmen.
The Premier League’s exclusive TV contracts to show its soccer matches on broadcasters such as British Sky Broadcasting Group Plc. may be unlawful, an adviser to the European Union’s highest court said (The ruling will not be absolute for several months more, but it is almost unheard of for the opinion of a European Advocate General to be overturned)
“Territorial exclusivity agreements relating to the transmission of football matches are contrary to EU law", Advocate General Juliane Kokott of the European Court of Justice said today. The Luxembourg-based EU court follows such opinions in a majority of cases.
