To any of the kind people of Uplyme:

I have discovered that my oldest known ancestor, Samuel Austin (1779-1824), is buried in the church cemetery in Uplyme. He was married to Susan Coombes and they had at least one son, Zachariah.

Unfortunately, I have little prospect of travelling to Uplyme from my home here in Canada in the near future, but I would still love to know more about Samuel (his parents names for example). I'm wondering if perhaps his headstone might have some additional information on it that would help me, and if some generous soul who lives in the vicinity would mind having a look at it for me?

Thanks,
Shaun Austin

I live near the cemetry but unfortunately a lot of the old graves the writting is now not there or very hard to see on the older ones that are by the church some are damaged or there are no headstones.

If i get a spare min i will try and have a look for you but i know i have had problems in the past trying to trace family up there.
