Anyone know why it doesn't work?
I love clocks and it's such a shame to see it not working |

I suspect it's a question of raising funds to keep it maintained and whether any funds raised by the Church could be better spent on other Church causes instead ? It's like the bells and any other bits of a large, wonderful old building - very expensive.
Perhaps it should be paid for by the Parish Council as it's an important village building ? _________________ it's never too late |

The clock has been a problem for the church for some time, running fast or slow as its mood took it!
The majority of clocks were placed on churches in this country by the parishes and therefore the responsibility of maintainance fell to the Parish Councils. Both the Church and the Parish Council have been looking into whose responsibility it is, and I think it is still too difficult to define whos responsibility it is!!!
However, the church had someone to look at the clock and they managed to get it going again for a short while. Although this was not satisfactory, it did indicate that perhaps the repair is not as major as we first thought it might be.
During the next few months the tower will be scaffolded and some repair and inspection work to the window frames and stonework of the tower will be caried out. (the main reason why the bells have been silent for a while) This will give us a good opportunity to inspect the clock properly and hopefully carry out the repair work required.
We have been pledged some financial assistance to repair the clock from one village group and the Parish Council, which is great news.
So with any luck and finances allowing we should have the bells ringing out and at the right time as we head into the summer! |
