Uplyme Youth 2 – 5 Exmouth Town
A Hard Fought Match.
Exmouth Town kicked off downhill with the sun behind them and immediately took up the attack which kept Uplyme’s keeper Brett James active - shots on goal came from corners, crosses, headers and long shots. Uplyme had a few chances with skipper Sam Jones getting a shot or two in but the first fifteen minutes were Exmouths. Uplyme’s defence managed to keep the ball out of the net with notably Connor Pemberton working hard. The next ten minutes saw more even play with Uplyme’s midfield player Anthony Simes connecting well with the forwards Kyle Knight and Johnnie Turner. However in the thirtieth minute Exmouth renewed their attack and after intensive goalmouth action got in their first goal. Minutes later, a well executed corned gave them their second goal and after five more minutes another corner was headed in for their third. The Uplyme defence, particularly Pemberton, George Heath and Matt Pyle worked hard to keep the score at 0 – 3 at half-time
The second half began with Uplyme taking up the attack in the first few minutes. But, against the run of play, an Exmouth striker made an inspired run and arrowed the ball high into the back of the net. Uplyme’s midfield and forwards maintained their pressure on the Exmouth goal with near misses from Knight, Turner and Jones but it was Simes who in the end was successful in the twentieth minute. Pemberton from Uplyme’s defence worked hard at both ends of the pitch with sound tackling and gazelle like bounding runs up field. A corner in the thirtieth minute brought Uplyme’s second goal - after a goalmouth scrabble Liam Aldworth ran in and methodically put the ball away. Despite more talented play by Uplyme’s Pemberton it was the continued well executed corner routines by Exmouth which delivered them the final goal of the match five minutes from the final whistle.
Uplyme’s Man of the Match was judged be Connor Pemberton. Uplyme’s next match away at Honiton at 10.30am on Sunday 27th September.
