Honiton 2 – 1 Uplyme Youth
Uplyme Youth lack sparkle.
With the morning sunshine reflecting off the dewy grass Uplyme Youth kicked off and, after an initial rush on Uplyme’s goal by Honiton, the first half settled into a fairly even game territory–wise but with Honiton displaying tighter passing and control. For Uplyme, Kyle Knight and Jack Heath had a couple of slight chances on goal whilst their defence was kept busy with notably Matt Pile performing well. Neither team produced any convincing goal attempts and after forty minutes the score at half time was 0 – 0.
The second half began with Honiton taking up the attack and in the first few minutes scored -, lobbing the ball over the Uplyme keeper from a well taken corner. Uplyme defenders, especially Connor Pemberton and Callum Taylor worked hard but couldn’t prevent Honiton’s second goal a few more minutes later. Honiton kept up the pressure with several shots going high and wide. Late on Uplyme’s main chance came from a long shot from Jack Rumens but it went straight to the keeper’s hands. Minutes later thanks to a contentious penalty decision in favour of Uplyme, captain Sam Jones scored leaving the final score 2 – 1 to Honiton.
For the second week Uplyme’s Man of the Match was judged be Connor Pemberton. Uplyme’s next match is away at Exmouth Amateurs on Sunday 4th October.
