Uplyme Youth’s Devon Cup Run Ends
In cold but bright conditions Uplyme kicked off uphill; at first to meet a robust defence and then a determined attack from Broadmeadow. Thus the Uplyme keeper Brett James and the back four were kept busy early on with notably George Heath and Kieran Bearpark giving energetic and forceful accounts of themselves. Meanwhile at the other end Uplyme failed to take advantage of several free kicks awarded to them in the Broadmeadow half. Twenty-five minutes in, after a spell of fairly evenly matched play, Broadmeadow scored from an accurate header from a corner kick. Uplyme pressed forward from the restart with Will Rideout and Johnnie Turner working well with captain Sam Jones up front but no firm shots on goal were produced. It was Broadmeadow who in the final few minutes of the first half, after an unfortunate Uplyme defensive misplay, scored their second goal.
The second half started well up forward for Uplyme with a Jones and Jack Heath move seeing the ball headed just over the Broadmeadow bar. At the other end Broadmeadow continued their pressure on the Uplyme goal that required the defence and keeper James to work hard to prevent further score. A fairly even game developed but Uplyme’s an attack lacked the bite of previous cup games due to the absence of key players and thus the final score remained at 2 – 0 to Broadmeadow.
Uplyme’s next match is home to Exmouth Amateurs on Sunday 31st January at 2.30 pm.
