Uplyme Youth 5 – 5 Colyton
Colyton’s persistent catch-up resulted in a draw.
Colyton kicked off down the slope and immediately came under pressure from a concerted Uplyme attack. Uplyme’s up front pair, Harry Thresher and Sam Jones pressed hard but came up against a solid Colyton defence which prevented any score for about ten minutes. Eventually Jones chanced a 30 yard shot from in front of goal which found the back of the net. Minutes later Uplyme’s Brett James got a header on target but lacked the pace to get past the Colyton keeper. During the following quarter of an hour Colyton got into gear and evened up the play and at the half hour mark were rewarded by a goal by lifting it over the Uplyme keeper, James Dunford. Instantly Uplyme came back with a second goal thanks to an inspired run from the midfield by Jack Rumens and a pass forward to Jones who, from a very acute angle, drilled the ball home. Jones aided by Jack Heath and Kyle Knight continued the attack but were kept at bay by rock-solid defence and keeping by Colyton. However an over enthusiastic sortie by the Colyton goalkeeper handed Uplyme a penalty which was successfully put away by Jones. Colyton responded quickly and in the dying minutes of the first half slotted in their second goal to leave the half-time score at 3 – 2 to Uplyme.
Although playing uphill in the second half Colyton came out attacking but thanks to sound defence by Uplyme’s Callum Taylor, George Heath and Jamie Wellman score was prevented for ten minutes until Colyton battled through and evened the score to 3 all. Uplyme responded, again very quickly - a fast sprint on the left by Knight and a chip into the net to get Uplyme back in front 4 - 3. Although Uplyme had more of the play for the next twenty minutes it was Colyton who scored to even up the goal tally. Five minutes later Uplyme got back into the lead thanks to a swift scuttle down the field by Thresher who then passed to Jones who, from some distance out, got in Uplyme’s fifth. Colyton however, were not content to lose and battled on to eventually even the score to 5 – 5 in added time.
Uplyme’s Man of the Match was judged be Callum Taylor. Uplyme’s next match is Sunday 24th October home to Chard Town - a 2.30pm kick-off.
